Ladies and Gentleman welcome to this week’s Q&A. As there is just two weeks left in the 2017 season and what could be one of the biggest nights for modifieds this week as there will be a “Northern Invasion”. Several of the Modified drivers from up north have mentioned taking a trip down to the Madhouse. I had the opportunity to talk to one of those drivers. The 2014 Whelen Modified Tour Rookie of the Year Timmy Solomito. As he has 7 career NASCAR Whelen Modified tour wins, 18 career Modified wins at Riverhead Raceway on Long Island, 32 career wins at Riverhead raceway total (legends, limited late model, modifieds), 2008 Inex legend car champion Riverhead raceway, and he is currently leading Whelen Modified tour points with 3 wins this season. He is scheduled to run in the Gale Force #95 modified this weekend at Bowman Gray.
Q: What got you interested in racing?
A: My father and uncle raced modifieds at Riverhead Raceway and Riverside Park back in the 80’s and 90’s. The tradition carried on through the family.
Q: What is it about Bowman Gray that stands out to you compared to all the other tracks?
A: The amount of fans really stands out to me. Competing in front of that amount of people and the excitement seems pretty awesome!
Q: Could we see you race at Bowman Gray more in the future?
A: As of now this is a one race deal. But if the opportunity came about I would entertain it!
Q: What is it about Modifieds that you enjoy more than fenders?
A: There is nothing like a modified. Open wheels, low to the ground, and big horsepower.
Q: In a previous interview I asked James Civali, do you think we will see more drivers from the north coming down to race at the Madhouse?
A: I think everyone would love to try Bowman Gray at least once in their career. I’m sure you will see a few throughout the years
Q: What would you say is your most memorable win?
A: My most memorable win would be icebreaker at Thompson Motorsports Park in 2016. It was my first NASCAR Tour modified win and really has propelled us to more wins!
Q: What are your thoughts about the Ryan Preece, Andy Jankowiak, Cole Powell talking about coming down and racing at the Madhouse this weekend?
A: I think it’s awesome. Always fun to see drivers try different things and it’s cool we will all be there this weekend.
Be sure to check out this week’s action as it will be the Twin 50’s for Modified, two 20 lap Sportsman races, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock along with the 109 U-Pull-It Skid Race.
