Winston-Salem 2, Carolina 1 (F/11)

W: Zach Thompson (2-1)
L: Luke Barker (4-1)
S: Matt Foster (6)

ZEBULON, N.C. (June 10, 2018) – Joel Booker delivered a go-ahead double in the 11th inning on Sunday, and Matt Foster capped off an impressive day for the Dash pitching staff by locking down a save to seal a 2-1 victory in 11 innings and a series sweep of the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium.
With the game tied at one in the 11th, Booker came up to bat with Zach Remillard on second. On an 0-1 pitch, Booker grounded the deciding hit against Luke Barker (4-1) down the third-base line, bringing home Remillard to give Winston-Salem (36-27) a 2-1 advantage.

Foster, who earned a save on Friday against Carolina (29-33), worked around two-on, one-out jam in the bottom of the 11th. With runners at the corners and one out and Tucker Neuhaus at the plate, Winston-Salem caught Rob Henry stealing home after Dallas Carroll broke for second base. Dash shortstop Yeyson Yrizarri received Yermin Mercedes’ throw in front of the second base and threw a strike to Mercedes to nab Henry at the plate. Foster would proceed to induce a popout from Neuhaus to right field to end the ballgame.
With the victory, Winston-Salem earns its second road sweep of the year, and the team will maintain its lead atop the Southern Division. The Dash came into the contest with a half-game advantage of Buies Creek for first place.

Luis Martinez, who was making his ninth start of the season, tossing six strong innings, retiring the last 13 batters he faced. Overall, he allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out five. Kyle Kubat relieved Martinez and proceeded to record two perfect frames.
However, the Dash were unable to score against Mudcats starter Cam Roegner, who tossed a career-high eight innings and allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out a career-best eight batters.

After a scoreless ninth from Barker and Zach Thompson (2-1), the game went into extra innings, where the Dash jumped ahead in the 10th. With Blake Rutherford pinch-running on second, Mercedes stroked an RBI double to left-center to put Winston ahead 1-0.

The Mudcats would respond, though, with a run in the bottom of the frame. With Luis Aviles Jr. on third and one out, Cooper Hummel lined a run-scoring single through the right side to knot the contest at one. Despite giving up the run, Thompson earned his second victory of the season with his two innings of work. The Dash right-hander has not given up an earned run over his last six outings, a span of 12 innings.

The first-half #DashToThePostseason will wrap up with a seven-game homestand at BB&T Ballpark, starting with the first of a three-game set against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Monday. The Dash will send right-hander Jimmy Lambert (3-6, 4.44 ERA) to the hill against left-hander Bryan Hudson (4-4, 5.68 ERA).
