• Carolina won its home opener for the sixth time in seven years under head coach Larry Fedora. UNC also won its ACC opener for the third time in four seasons.

• Head coach Larry Fedora is now 44-36 at Carolina and 78-55 overall.

• Carolina is now 10-3 against Pitt including wins in each of the last six games against the Panthers. Today’s three-point margin of victory for the Tar Heels is the 11th time in 13 games between the two schools that the margin of victory was 10 points or fewer. Including today, the last eight matchups have been decided by a total of 31 points.

• QB Nathan Elliott set a career high with 313 passing yards. His previous game high was 278 yards at NC State in 2017. Elliott was 22 of 31, threw for two touchdowns and posted a QB rating of 177.1. It’s the second straight game he completed a career-high 22 passes.

• TB Antonio Williams rushed for a career-high 114 yards (his first career 100-yard game) on 16 carries and had two rushing touchdowns.

• Williams’ 37-yard touchdown run resulted in Carolina’s first TD on an opening drive this season. It also marked the longest rushing TD of the season for the Tar Heels.

• Williams added a 1-yard scoring plunge in the second quarter. He is the first UNC running back to score multiple rushing touchdowns in a game since Michael Carter had a pair against Virginia in 2017.

• TB Michael Carter missed the first two games this season due to injury, but returned to the lineup today and caught a 31-yard TD reception in his season debut. It was his second career touchdown catch.

• True freshman WR Dyami Brown hauled in his first career TD in the third quarter, a 19-yard pass from Nathan Elliott.

• WR Dazz Newsome set career highs with six catches for 110 yards. His previous high for yardage was 66 against Louisville in 2017.

• LB Cole Holcomb made a game-high 12 tackles (10 solo). He had two tackles for a loss (including a sack), broke up one pass and had a quarterback hurry.

• PK Freeman Jones made 1 of 2 field goal attempts. His miss in the fourth quarter was his first in eight attempts dating back to the 2017 season.

• Carolina’s defense limited Pitt to -5 yards of total offense in the third quarter. The Panthers compiled 297 total yards in the first half and led 28-21 at halftime. The Tar Heels out-scored the Panthers, 17-0, in the third quarter.

• The 35 points allowed by the Tar Heels are the most by an opponent in a win since UNC beat Florida State, 37-35, on 10/1/2016.
