4 Star Recruit Anthony Harris Commits to UNC

UNC head coach Roy Williams has been very busy this off-season.

After receiving a verbal commitment from top ranked PG Cole Anthony earlier in the day on Tuesday, Williams received an additional commitment from 4 star combo guard Anthony Harris.

Harris originally committed to Virginia Tech on Nov. 19, 2018, but reopened his recruiting after head coach Buzz Williams left for Texas A&M in March 2019. On April 4, Harris announced he would open his recruitment back up in a post via Twitter.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Harris played High School Basketball in Fairfax, Va. Harris is the No. 65 recruit in 247Sports’ composite rankings and the No. 8 combo guard in the 2019 class. Harris missed the majority of the senior season at Paul VI Catholic High School after tearing his left ACL in a game vs St. Frances Academy on Dec. 1. Anthony is expected to be fully ready to play at the start of the 2019-20 season.

Head Coach Roy Williams expressed happiness at the commitment.

“Anthony’s a remarkable young man,” Williams said in a team release Tuesday night. “I love his toughness and competitiveness. A team can never have enough of these qualities. We are very fortunate to have a player of his caliber join our program. His parents (Anthony Sr. and Meecsha Harris) have done a great job raising him and Coach Farello has done a tremendous job coaching him at Paul VI. He’s a great addition to our program.”

UNC moved from the 50th ranked class at 8am Tuesday, to the 6th ranked class by 8pm the same day. UNC now has four commitments for the 2019-2020 season. Along with Harris, Williams has signed 5 star prospects Cole Anthony and Armando Bacot and point guard Jeremiah Francis, a three-star recruit from Pickerington, Ohio.
